How can I get healthy plants from a nursery in 2024?
Do you get a rush of exhilaration whenever you go past a store that sells plants? Do you have the sudden desire to buy plants with all of your life savings? I am certain that I do. Furthermore, even if I support buying plants on a whim, you still need to be careful to avoid purchasing unhealthy plants
Why don’t you accompany me to one of my favorite nurseries so that we can all gain knowledge and perhaps even increase my plant purchases?
I make sure I have adequate planters or nursery pots for future plant babies and to see what plants I already have before heading to the nursery. In addition, I have a large plastic bag that I can collapse in the car.
Here are some indicators that a nursery is good: Healthy plants
1: The staff members at the nursery should be knowledgeable about the plants and genuinely have a passion for them
2: The overall impression of the nursery should be one of coolness, verdancy, and freshness. If a large number of the plants appear wilted, drooping, or lanky, it’s conceivable that the nursery isn’t providing enough care.
1. Evaluate and contrast the plants:
After selecting your favorite plant, you should gather three or four more of the same kind to compare and determine which is best overall. It will be worth it, so be ready for some dirt to go on your clothing.
2. Follow the leaves’ lead:
The leaves should appear healthy and unharmed, not withered or yellowed. It is normal for one or two leaves around the base of the plant to be yellowing or withering, but as long as the plant is healthy overall, that is OK. New leaves emerging from the plant is a positive indicator that it is doing well.
3. Look For Pests:
Check for insects or other tiny pests under and above leaves and stems. There should be no black spots, little, fuzzy, white mealy bugs, or anything crawling about on the plant. Examine the dirt as well while you’re at it. There shouldn’t be any bugs or fungi on it.
4. Importance Of Roots
I brought home a snake plant that had root aphids when I was a novice plant mom since I didn’t realize that I should inspect the roots before bringing them home. These small, white beetles are extremely difficult to spot because they stick to the roots. After completing the aforementioned steps, simply gently remove the dirt surrounding the container, pull the plant out of it, and examine the root systems to ensure they are healthy. Simply ask the nursery worker to do it if you’re too afraid to do it yourself.
